Cool Cooking Stuff
Here are a few of our favorite things:
Lemon juice is a wonderful ingredient, but who needs the seeds? This easy-to-use lemon squeezer, its design borrowed from the fresh juice vendors in Mexico, gets out all the juice wihout the mess. It retails for about $12 and is available at cooking stores like Sur La Tab www.surlatab.com.
If you want a kitchen gadget that will slice fruits and veggies quickly, you need a mandolin, like the one show above. You can buy a fancy one with multiple settings and blades for $100-200, but I’ve found this simple one made by Feemster costs about $10 and is quick and effective. The carbon blade stays sharp and just needs to be wiped dry after use. Available online at www.thehomemarketplace.com or at well-stocked kitchen stores.
