PacSafe Venturesafe Hip Pack

Hands-free travel!

When I travel, I love a belly bag. I know they’re not particularly stylish, but they’re incredibly convenient and enable me to carry my passport, money, glasses, lip gloss, etc. where I can easily access them.

On a recent trip to Spain , I was concerned about security, especially after reading to many stories about pickpockets. So I retired my old belly bag and opted for PacSafe’s Venturesafe Hip Pack.

This bag features a number of security features, including eXomesh, PacSafe’s patented material that prevents the strap or the bag from being cut or slashed. The strap is extra-thick with a heavy-duty plastic clip that comes with wire loop and metal clip that prevents the strap from coming off even if the larger clip is opened. On the opposite side of the strap is a small, Velcro-secured hidden pocket to tuck extra money.

The bag itself has two main zippered areas, both with extra hooks that secure the zippers and keep them from being easily opened by a thief. At first, I found the zipper security hooks to be a bit of a hassle – having to open them every time I wanted into my bag. However, I quickly adjusted and found they were relatively easy for me to open, yet impossible for someone else (like a thief).

Inside the larger compartment, there’s a zippered pocket with a key fob to keep your keys secure. And there are two Velcro-secured pockets that are great for a passport, wallet, money, cell phone or other valuables. The bag also has a tiny opening from the main compartment that enables you to put an earpiece from an iPod or cell phone without having to have the electronic device exposed where it can easily be ripped off. Additionally, the main compartment is deep and large enough to carry even a paperback book.

The Venturesafe Hip Pack features thick padding for comfort on the inside where the bag tests against the body. The bag can be worn in the back or on the belly or even slung over your shoulder with ease.

Real bottom line: I used this bag as a belly bag and as a shoulder bag and appreciated the roominess, the comfort, and, especially the sense of security this bag gave me. It will be a bag I travel with for many years to come and recommend it to anyone who’s concerned about keeping their valuables safe.
