Enhanced Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Place of origin: Durban, Republic of South Africa.

In Capetown,  we met a friendly stewardess who flew the Amsterdam-to-Capetown route for the Dutch airline KLM. A fellow foodie, she recommended this smooth, wonderfully lemony olive oil, available at the local Pick and Pay grocery.

It’s produced by the Morgenster Estate Olive Farm and Winery, which is located in the heart of the Western Cape’s wine region.

If you live in the United States or Canada, Morgenster won’t ship, but if you’re in Europe or elsewhere, you can find it online at http://www.morgenster.co.za

In the meantime fellow RFT readers, if anyone goes to South Africa, let us know and we’ll have you pick us up of case of this incredible olive oil.

I am using extra virgin olive oil for frying indian foods. Can i use it to fry and cook indian foods? Is there any danger ? Is it good for normal cooking other than frying?

    • Hi Kiara,
Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is an excellent oil for frying, for adding to foods, or for uses like dressing salads or dipping bread. Loads of research indicates that EVOO is one of the most healthful of all the oils. However, be aware that any oil, including EVOO, is high in calories and frying foods isn’t the healthiest way to cook. In moderation, EVOO is a great choice. At RFT, we’ve reviewed a number of excellent olive oils, including Three Olives, Fenucchi Oils, Bistro Blends, or for something really different, The Smoked Olive. Most you can order on the web. Check out our Real Food Finds under Real Favorites for more contact information. Thanks for asking and happy cooking! Bobbie, RFT Editor
