Henry’s Ice Cream

Creamy Old Fashioned Deliciousness

Henry's has an old timey feel to it. Be sure to get there early or they'll run out of your favorite flavor.

Henry’s Ice Cream is such an institution in Plano, Texas, just outside of Dallas, you’d expect it to be in a historic building rather than its innocuous location in a rather dated Prairie Creek Village shopping mall. But that doesn’t diminish the fact that Henry’s makes some of the freshest, creamiest ice cream in Texas.

The 16% butterfat ice cream is made with local ingredients every day in small batches. When they run out of a flavor that’s it for the day (come early or you may be disappointed). They make a dozen or so interesting daily flavors like coconut, praline, black raspberry chip, cinnamon, Bailey’s, dinosaur eggs (it’s blue!),  and maple walnut.

Cinnamon, a light caramel color, is a creamy, spicy flavor with just the right amount of rich cinnamon. The maple walnut is packed with fresh nuts and there’s nothing artificial about the deep walnut flavor. Henry’s Vanilla is silky smooth and deliciously vanilly.

Every day, they post the flavors available at Henry's on a blackboard, but not on the ice cream tubs themselves, which can make ordering a challenge.

You can opt for cookie cones, waffle cones, dipped waffle cones, cups, or sundaes. A  They even have a pig’s dinner – five scoops of ice cream and five toppings! Now that’s piggy.

Real bottom line: When you’re in Plano, head for Henry’s and go early. Review by BH
