MilkBite: Portable Milk and Granola

I’m a big granola bar fan. When I’m in a hurry (which is often), I’ll grab a granola bar and munch on it on my way. But, too often, granola-type bars are full of sugar and really aren’t that great for you. Kraft has recently come out with MilkBite, a snack bar made with real milk and whole grains that actually tastes good.

Unlike most granola bars that are crunchy and dry, MilkBites are soft and chewy. Because they contain real milk – and 30% of the daily calcium you need – they need to be stored in the refrigerator. That’s a minor inconvenience for a bar that contains real food. They’re made with milk, whole grains, and contain no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. They provide 5 grams of protein and 7 grams of whole grains. Now that’s a breath of fresh air in the overly-processed snack world.

MilkBites contrain real milk and 30% of the RDA for calcium.

MilkBites come in Chocolate, Strawberry, Peanut butter, Oatmeal Raisin, and Mixed Berry . RFT Editors sampled the Chocolate and Strawberry flavors. The Chocolate version has a mild, pleasant chocolate flavor and an almost creamy texture. They reminded us of those no-bake chocolate cookies. One RFT Editor, who is definitely not a granola bar flavor, declared, “These taste good.”

Unlike most granola bars, MilkBites are creamy and moist.

When you open the Strawberry MilkBite, you get an instant waft of strong strawberry aroma, but the strawberry flavor is mellow. This flavor proved a bit too sweet, but it’s one kids are sure to love.

We found MilkBites were a great mid-afternoon pick-me-up with enough protein to satisfy without the sugar dump too often associated with snack bars. One 140-calorie MilkBite at 3 pm staved off snacking until dinner. Now that’s pretty good for a snack bar.

Real Bottom Line: Kraft’s MilkBites are a refreshing change over dry tasteless granola bars. They’re actually good for you and a great source of calcium, protein, and whole grains. We’re — BH
