Milton’s Trail Mix Bites: Chewy, Delicious, and Great for You

Image of Milton's Trail Mix Bites

Back in the 1960’s and 70’s, good-for-you baked goods earned a bad name. Too often, cookies, bars, and even breads made with natural, whole grain ingredients were dry and tasteless. When Miltion’s Craft Bakers asked RFT Editors to sample their Trail Mix Bites, I was pleasantly surprised with their tasty wholesomeness.

Milton’s Craft Bakers started in 1995 as Milton’s Restaurant and Deli in Del Mar, California. They specialized in healthy foods, including whole grain breads. Demand from their customers to take home their breads made them start Milton Craft Bakers and today they make a line of breads, crackers, a few entrees, and their new Soft Baked Trail Mix Bites.

Milton's Trail Mix Bites come in a package with 16 individual packets that are perfect for travel.

Their Trail Mix Bites come in a 26.5 ounce bag with 16 individual 1.7 ounce packets. Each packet contains six pieces of soft, chewy trail mix bar. It’s as if someone made a big batch of healthful bars filled with things like whole grain barley flakes, organic rice syrup, raisins, cranberries, peanut butter, and real vanilla, cut them into small pieces and packaged them up. Brilliant and very tasty. The whole grain barley and dried fruits make the bites chewy and slightly sweet (though not overly sweet) while the peanut butter and roasted pumpkin and sunflower seeds add a nice flavor depth.

I  recently took several packets of Milton’s Soft Baked Trail Mix Bites along on a snow adventure trip to Central Oregon. The Trail Mix Bites proved to be a terrific energy-filled snack while snowshoeing. I especially like the fact that the packets are easy to stash in a pocket or backpack and I could eat one or two bites rather than an entire bar.

Eating just two or three of these hearty bites will stave off hunger.

The bites really filled me up without the let down of sugary foods. The whole grains are filling and the protein from the peanut butter and seeds stamped out my hunger. I found eating two or three Trail Mix Bites was all I needed to keep going even when the trail got rough. Perhaps best of all, a whole package of Milton’s Trail Mix Bites is only 170 calories yet provides 12 grams of whole grains, 5 grams of protein, 10 vitamins and minerals, 47 grams of fiber, and no high fructose corn syrup, no fillers, no additives, and no artificial anything. I love Milton’s Soft Baked Trail Mix Bites and plan to make them a regular part of my travels. — BH

I purchased your Trail Mix Bites at a Grocery Outlet store in Grass Valley CA and loved them. I haven’t been able to find them again. Where can I purchase these delicious, healthy snacks?
