Private view hot tub. That should be enough right there to consider reserving a condo in the River Ridge Suites at the Mt. Bachelor Village Resort. It’s situated minutes from anywhere you want to go in the town of Bend and it’s on the way to the Mt. Bachelor ski area.
Bend is one of the most attractive and visited outdoor playgrounds in Central Oregon and the resort caters to such visitors. Part of the 17-mile Deschutes River Trail passes directly below the property, and it doesn’t hurt that following it just a mile and a half leads guests directly to the granddaddy of Bend’s 15 breweries, Deschutes. Having said that, Cascade Lakes Brewing is even closer, just a 15-minute stroll through pine trees without having to come out of the wooded area very much.
Inside the suite, there’s a gas fireplace, full kitchen, furniture as comfortable to sit/rest on as it looks, and abundant room for lounging and loafing. After drinking in the gorgeous surroundings by day, there’s a large flat-screen TV in the living room area (where the sofa folds out into a sleeper if needed) as well as a TV set in the wall of the bedroom. The only place not conducive to watching the telly is from the aforementioned Jacuzzi.
Design-wise, the private, outdoor Jacuzzis are positioned to prevent neighboring guests from peering in. The patio area is accessible from both the bedroom and the living room and includes a table, chairs, and best of all, a grill—making year-round grilling an inviting concept.
In addition to the Jacuzzi on your private deck, the bath tub doubles as a sunken hot tub replete with jets. After such pampering, while even a bed of nails would be comfortable enough, the beds are ideally comfortable for a great night’s rest to prepare you for another day of tackling all that the area has to offer.
Resort guests can also take advantage of complimentary use of the Athletic Club of Bend. This state-of-the-art facility is no mere hotel gym. Located on 13 acres on the road to Mt. Bachelor, The Athletic Club is equal parts athletic, dining, and social club. Comprising 125,000 square feet, those who need to tend to their fitness needs beyond the many outdoor activities that abound in Bend can enjoy comprehensive workout equipment as well as tennis courts, and a large swimming pool (summer only. Classes include yoga, spinning, and several more, each conducted by highly-trained staff. And speaking of visiting in the summer, while we were there in the tranquil snow-covered first days of spring, the club also features an outdoor café, summer concert series, and plenty of fitness events for all ages and levels including a kids’ triathlon. — by Brian Yeager
