Irish Julep Recipe: A Perfect Alternative St. Patrick’s Day Cocktail

Enjoy a St. Patty’s Day Julep made with Irish Whiskey!

This year rather than ingesting all that green dye in festive green beers, celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a refreshing cocktail. Our New Jersey friends at Salt Creek Grille Princeton have invented the  Irish Julep, the perfect Irish spin on the classic Mint Julep cocktail.

The mint leaves bring the appropriate Irish Green and also provide an invigorating zest. It calls for Amaro Averna Liqueur, a popular Italian digestive made of herbs, roots and spices with caramel you can likely find in your local liquor store.

1.5 ounces of Irish Whiskey (a quality whiskey like Jameson is a good choice)

¼ ounce of Averna Amaro

½ ounce of simple syrup

6 mint leaves

1 mint sprig

1/2 ounce of water

Crushed Ice

Muddle mint leaves, simple syrup, and water in a highball glass.

Add crushed ice and Irish Whiskey.
