RFT’s intrepid Ski & Dive Editor, Yvette Cardozo, has been honored with a Silver Award at the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) Western Chapter for her article “The Brave New World of Travel Underwear (and More)” published on realfoodtraveler.com.
Yvette, a veteran travel writer, won Silver in the Service Article category. SATW is the largest and most prestigious professional association for travel journalists in the United States.
Readers familiar with Yvette’s work on realfoodtraveler.com know she often writes about subjects with a tongue-in-cheek, laugh-at-herself approach that’s both light and fun. Her piece, “The Brave New World of Travel Underwear (and More)” is no exception. Yvette could have written a straightforward gear review, but, no, not Yvette.
She wrote, “The package label says “Seventeen countries, six weeks, one pair of underwear.”
Welcome to the new age of travel wear. Those of us over a certain age can remember trekking the globe with one seriously ratty pair of jeans, a couple of T-shirts, a jacket and little else. We can also remember standing in a laundromat in, say, Amsterdam, wrapped in a borrowed towel while our travel wardrobe went around and around and around in the dryer. Or worse yet, we simply wore it wet. And very smelly.
That’s classic Yvette.
When asked about the award, she quipped. “It’s good to know undies have their rightful place in the scheme of things.”
That style has earned Yvette another well-deserved honor.
