One of the things we love about the holiday season is cookies. While homemade is great, sometimes we’re simply too busy to bake those holiday favorites. Our friends at Lance Bakers, who have been making cookies since 1913, have come out with a lovely little series of cookies they’re calling Seasonal Favorites that’ll put you in the holiday mood.
Lance’s Seasonal Favorites, which they’re only making for the holiday season, come in 10.3 ounce boxes, each with six packs of six cookies each. The individual packages keep the cookies uber-fresh and, because each cookie is small, you can eat an entire package (six cookies) and consume only 240 calories. These mini-packs made us feel like we were really indulging—after all, we ate an entire package all to ourselves.
The flavors include Sweet Crème, Mint, and Pumpkin Cheesecake and we sampled all three. The Sweet Crème, about the size of a silver dollar, was one of our favorites They come as two crisp vanilla sandwich wafers infused with sprinkled sugar filled with a sweet, creamy filling. The wafers are super crisp and contrast nicely with the silky filling.
The Mint are little square dark chocolate wafers with a soft green filling that is refreshing, but not overwhelmingly minty. I’m a major fan of the combination of chocolate and mint and these little cookies became one of my go-to afternoon snacks. They’re perfect with a cup of tea or coffee.
The Pumpkin cheesecake, vanilla cookies filled with a spicy pumpkin filling was the only flavor our tasting panel didn’t love. While the vanilla wafer was tasty, our food editors felt the overall taste of the spiced cookie and spiced filling were, well, too spicy. It’s a lot of pumpkin flavor. If you’re a real pumpkin spice fan, you’ll like this one.
Real Bottom Line: If you want some seasonal cookies that don’t have to come out of your own oven, the Lance Seasonal Favorite Cookie Sandwiches are a good choice. The individual packaging keeps these cookies super fresh (which is good because they don’t contain preservatives) and makes portion control a snap. These individual packages make perfect additions to lunches or great stocking stuffers.—Bobbie Hasselbring, RFT Editor
