RFT Writer and Site Win Again

Carla is known for showcasing some of the finest food and travel writers in the business and one of them is Carla Waldemar, a veteran writer who has just won a Silver (second place) in the 2016 Mark Twain Awards of the Midwest Travel Writers Association (MTWA), the oldest professional association for travel journalists in the United States. And, for the second year in a row, the website has won for Best Website from the Western Chapter of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), the largest association of professional travel writers in the U.S.

Veteran food and travel writer was honored for the second year in a row for a story.

Carla Waldemar, a frequent contributor to realfoodtraveler who often documents her travels and food adventures around the world, was honored for her story, “New Finn Fare: Forwardly Delicious.” Last year, Carla won a Bronze Award in the Midwest Travel Writers Mark Twain Awards for her story, “In Love with Russia.”

Competition for the Midwest Travel Association awards is keen. The MWTA draws professional travel journalists from 14 states. This year’s contest garnered more than 100 entries from full-time, professional travel journalists, including from respected publications like the Chicago Tribune, the St. Louis Post Dispatch, and National Geographic Traveler.

Waledemar, a former Food Editor for Better Homes and Gardens and Senior Editor for Cuisine magazine, has a witty style and writes mouth-watering descriptions of her food and travel experiences. In addition to writing often for, she serves as the Twin Cities editor of the annual Zagat Survey.

Editor-in-Chief Bobbie Hasselbring and were honored again by the Society of American Travel Writers at their Western Chapter meeting held recently in New Mexico with a Bronze Award in the Best Website category. Last year, the site won a Gold in this category from SATW.

These newest awards are only the latest in a long list of honors that writers have won with stories they produce for Yvette Cardozo, RFT’s Ski & Dive Editor, has won numerous writing awards, including Northern Lights Awards from the Canada Tourism Commission and an SATW award for her fun review of Travel Underwear on, “The Brave New World of Travel Underwear (and More).”

RFT Editor Bobbie Hasselbring is among the many writers who win awards for RFT.

RFT Editor Bobbie Hasselbring’s stories have brought honor to too. In addition to winning a Bronze for Best Website this year, in 2015, she accepted the Gold Award for Best Website from SATW .In 2013 and 2011, she won Northern Lights Awards, the highest award given to U.S. writers by Canada Media Marketplace and the Canada Tourism Commission, for stories. In 2013, she was also honored with the Food Day Canada Culinary Award for Best Written Work in Any Medium with the story, “A Taste of the Garden”. In 2012, she won the Travel Media Award from the Saskatchewan Excellence in Tourism Awards for a series of RFT stories she wrote.
