Realfoodtraveler.com’s Editor-in-Chief, Bobbie Hasselbring, and RFT’s Ski and Dive Editor, Yvette Cardozo, and the website realfoodtraveler.com have brought home more awards, announced the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), the country’s largest and most prestigious professional association for travel writers.
At the recent SATW Western Chapter meeting in Charleston, South Carolina, top-flight writers and editors entered 145 entries in the celebrated writing competition. Professors from the University of Missouri School of Journalism Entries judged the entries and chose the winners.
Bobbie Hasselbring was awarded a Bronze Award and cash prize for Best Magazine story for “Hooked on Tillamook,” which appeared in the August 2017 issue of Trailer Life magazine (www.trailerlife.com/lifestyle/destinations/hooked-on-tillamook/). The judges wrote about this winning story, “A vivid description of fishing along the northern Oregon coast and the search for the elusive Tillamook. Rapid fire prose moves you through a story that’s exciting as well as informational – right on target for the magazine’s RV audience.”
More Kudos for RFT
For the third year in a row, www.realfoodtraveler.com also won in the Best Website category. Bobbie was on hand to receive a Bronze Award and a check for this Best Website honor. The judges commented, “Seasoned travelers and novices alike need nourishment. You cannot – and probably should not – rely on backpack granola bars or cruise ship buffets. Part of the allure of travel is taking advantage of new experiences and sampling local cuisine, one of the most enjoyable experiences available. Realfoodtraveler.com is rich in content and variety, offering recommendations and suggestions that should help travelers find their gastronomical way in unfamiliar places.”
Bobbie said about this multi-year win for the website, “I’m very proud of Realfoodtraveler.com. The fact that we’ve won Best Website honors three years in a row from SATW is really significant; we’re doing something right. Myself and all the talented writers and photographers who contribute to realfoodtraveler.com make it one of the best culinary websites around. We all share this honor.”
Cardozo’s Frank Riley Award
Two years ago, SATW’s Western Chapter met in Branson, Missouri, and writers who wrote stories about the destination were eligible to compete for the Frank Riley Award for the best story about Branson. The winner was chosen by the Branson Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
Yvette Cardozo, Realfoodtraveler.com’s longtime Ski & Dive Editor, won the Frank Riley Award with “Surprised by Branson,” which appeared in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. In addition to an award certificate, Cardozo picked up a tidy $500 prize for her efforts.
Branson CVB was delighted by the all-inclusive article that Yvette wrote on the city. They wrote about her story, “We loved the “first-timer” insight about our town and the in-depth coverage of the many things to see and do here. With such gorgeous photography, it was the “total package!”
Congratulations to Bobbie, Yvette, and all the writers, editors, and photographers at realfoodtraveler.com.
