Best Western Plus, North Platte, NE: Amazingly Comfortable

I don’t often write about moderately-priced, chain-style hotels. Usually, they’re pretty standard and nothing really stands out. However, the Best Western Plus North Platte Inn and Suites in North Platte, Nebraska, is the exception. This hotel, conveniently located close to I-80, is so fresh and clean and well-maintained, it fairly sparkles. And it’s got those amenities—all ratcheted up a notch—that make these kinds of hotels perfect for travelers.

When I learned the group I was traveling with was booked into North Platte’s Best Western Plus, I wasn’t particularly excited. However, I was immediately impressed with this hotel’s décor—dark woods with bright orange accents and everything so well-maintained the place appeared brand new.

The generously sized room came with comfortable beds; one king and one double bed.

My generously sized room came with one king and one double bed. Both were comfortable and dressed with lightweight duvets and plenty of pillows. Artwork—gorgeous photos of area landscapes—added to the serene ambiance. There was also a microwave, a small refrigerator, coffeemaker, and a flat screen TV. The writing desk was large enough to actually use and there was chair and an overstuffed chair with ottoman and reading lamp—a nice feature so you don’t have to always read or work propped up in bed. High-speed WI-FI was free. And while the window didn’t open, each room comes with an individual heating/cooling unit.

The bathroom featured a bath/tub combo and, while the showerhead could have been better, the toiletries were good quality.

On the main floor, there was a large indoor pool with a whirlpool spa and small fitness room. Just off the lobby is the business center with three computers and printer.

The full breakfast, which is served starting at 6 a.m., is surprisingly tasty and served on a long bar with seating and small tables.

The breakfast room with both a long bar with seating and small tables was impressive. In the early evening, they served complimentary beer, wine, juices, and appetizers and, judging from the happy crowd that gathered to take advantage of this amenity, it’s popular with guests. The full breakfast, which is served starting at 6 a.m., is surprisingly tasty and includes offerings such as sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, pastries, breads, and pancakes, as well as yogurt, fruit, hot and cold cereals, milk, juices, and coffee and tea. In my travels, I’ve eaten many breakfasts at chain hotels, but the one served at North Platte’s Best Western Plus certainly ranks as one of the freshest and best. For guests who need to get out super early or don’t have time for a full breakfast, they also offer a grab and go sack with items like fruit and granola and coffee and tea are available 24 hours.

Real Bottom Line: If you’re in the North Platte, Nebraska area, you can’t go wrong staying at the Best Western Plus. You’ll get all those great freebie amenities—parking, WiFi, full breakfast, in-room micro, fridge, and coffeemaker, business center, fitness room, pool and spa—all wrapped in an attractive and sparkling clean package and all at a reasonable price.
