In recent years, savvy travelers have started bringing their own water bottles and sturdy travel cups when they travel. It’s a great way to save spending $3-5 for bottled water and $5 or more for coffee or tea at airports. Carrying your own drinking container also reduces waste and is great for the planet. The problem is that many of these containers are difficult if not impossible to clean.
Bottle Bright has created a formula to clean those containers that’s certified safe, natural and sustainable. It’s chlorine-free and doesn’t use harsh chemicals. Their tablets contain sodium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate peroxide, citric acid, cellulose, a chelating agent (for bonding metals), and surfactants (that act as detergents, wetting agents, emulsifiers, foaming agents, and dispersants).
No Scrub Cleaning
Anne’s tea container is too narrow at the top to get your hand into to scrub so the cup had plenty of stains from the tannins in black tea. Following the directions, I filled the cup with hot water and dropped in a tablet and loosely set the cap on. Five minutes later, I gave the solution a shake. The directions say a cup might be clean in as little as 15 minutes. They also indicate it can take as long as 8 hours for really dirty containers and I found this to be true with Anne’s cup and others I cleaned.
I left the cup soaking overnight and, in the morning, all the brown stuff that had been impossible to scrub off had simply melted away. A quick rinse and the cup looked brand new. Anne used the cup and reported that the cup rinsed cleanly and there was no aftertaste from Bottle Bright.
I was so excited about these results, I searched through the cupboards in RFT’s offices and cleaned several travel coffee cups and a two narrow, bullet-style metal thermoses. In each case, the result was the same: a multi-hour soak resulted in clean-as-a-whistle containers.
Bottle Bright doesn’t just work on insulated metal coffee cups either. Those plastic pet self-watering containers are impossible to clean. I cleaned two of them with similar results—soaked overnight with Bottle Bright and gave them a quick scrub with a bottle brush and rinsed. Voila! These pet watering dishes are as clean as they were when I bought them.
And while I don’t use hydration water packs, Bottle Bright would be perfect for cleaning them out. In fact, that’s how the idea for Bottle Bright was born—fresh off the trail with less-than-tasty water coming from dirty hydration packs. The company also leverages profits from the sales of Bottle Bright to help clean drinking water for people in less-developed countries. Very cool idea.
Real bottom line: No need to carry around grungy coffee/tea or water containers when you travel. Bottle Bright effervescent cleaning tablets will clean up those containers easily and quickly without harsh chemicals. We found 10-tablet packages of Bottle Bright online for $7.99. At less than a $1.00 per container, it’s a bargain. We love this product and think you will too. – Bobbie Hasselbring, Editor realfoodtraveler.com
