Charleston, South Carolina, recently named the #1 city destination in the world and in the U.S. and Canada by readers of Travel + Leisure, has plenty of great places to stay, including a number of historic properties. But if you’re looking for a comfortable, spotlessly modern accommodation for a longer stay, Hyatt House located right in the center of town close to all the tourist highlights, is a great choice.

Hyatt House’s lobby features plenty of comfy places for people to gather.
Hyatt House and its sister property, Hyatt Place, share a courtyard right off popular King Street. Both Hyatt Charleston, SC locations are the perfect resting place during a long trip. The courtyard creates both a sound and commotion buffer from the street and guests at both properties take advantage of the comfortable Sputhern-style rocking chairs they’ve set out.

Hyatt House is close to many historic attractions.
Walk into Hyatt Charleston SC Hyatt House and you’re greeted with sleek, contemporary décor with Southern service and hospitality. The downstairs area features several guest areas, including comfortable couches and overstuffed chairs, tables and chairs, and an elevated bar that’s used in the morning for breakfast and, in the afternoon, for happy hour wine and beer. In the same space is reception that’s staffed 24 hours and a convenience store with foods like snacks, ice cream, and microwaveable dishes for a quick meal. There’s also a business center composed of a long table with two computers and a printer. It’s not especially private, but quiet and convenient enough for printing out boarding passes or doing a quick internet search.
The tariff includes a full breakfast (served 6:30-9:30 a.m.) and it’s a good one. It features breads, English muffins, and delicious Southern cornbread that’s soft and sweet; hot and cold cereals; and hot entrees like scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, fried potatoes and French toast or waffles. There are also fresh fruits and juices and yogurt and cottage cheese. Best of all is the omelet station where cooks whip up the freshly-made omelet-of-the-day or made-to-order omelets with ingredients like cheeses, veggies (onion, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, and fresh spinach), and bacon. There’s also plenty of rich Seattle’s Best coffee. And they have plenty of polite and friendly staff who quickly buss and clean tables and keep the food offerings fresh and full.

The fully-stocked fitness room will help you work off calories from all those Southern foods.
On the second floor, there’s a large indoor pool and locker rooms as well as a well-equipped fitness room.
Large, Comfortable Kitchen Suites at the Hyatt Charleston SC
My room, a kitchen suite, was large with a kitchen area stocked with dishes and a small refrigerator and freezer, a microwave, and dishwasher. There was an elevated table with two tall chairs for eating or working.
The living room featured a modern, wrap around couch, side table with lamp, and two large ottomans. A see-through divider where the large, flat screen TV sat separated the living area from the modestly-sized bedroom. The TV cleverly rotates so you can watch either in the living area or in the bedroom. Free WiFi provided quick internet access.

The kitchenettes give guests more options.
My bedroom came with a comfortable king bed, side tables, and two bedside lights that provided good illumination. The space between the bedroom and bathroom held a unit with drawers for clothing and a space for a suitcase as well as a good-sized closet.
The AC unit faced the room divider, so it didn’t push air into the bedroom as effectively as I would have liked. It also only allowed me to set the temperature to 65 degrees. Since I like to sleep cool, I requested a fan, which the staff promptly provided.

The living area proved spacious and comfortable.
The bathroom featured good light, a glassed-in tile shower with a good showerhead, and plenty of soft, over-sized towels.
Like traditional hotels, housekeeping staff t Hyatt House come in every day to tidy up and change sheets and towels.
Real bottom line: For about the same price as a standard hotel room, hyatt charleston sc offers kitchen suites with amenities, including a full breakfast that stay-a-while guests will love. With warm hospitality and a location close to the main tourist sites, Hyatt House is a great choice next time you’re in Charleston.– Bobbie Hasselbring, RFT Editor
