Beef jerky Jerky Hut

One of the joys of being the founder at Real Food Traveler is the opportunity to discover new food finds and we love it when those finds are local. Recently, at a home show, we discovered the Jerky Hut, makers of all types of beef jerky and other smoked meats, and they’re located in Hubbard, Oregon.

As a frequent traveler, I like to take along jerky because it keeps well in my pack and provides a great protein hit, especially during those long layovers in airports. And The Jerky Hut’s beef jerky is as good as any I’ve tried. If you’re a jerky fan, I think you’ll agree.

The moisture and the seasoning are evident in Jerky Hut Beef Jerky.

One of the reasons The Jerky Hut beef jerky is so good is that they start with prime cuts of beef. They select beef that has just the right amount of fat marbling so that the product is tender, juicy and packed with flavor. They cut the beef into thick strips, which also helps keep it juicy. Then they vacuum pack it to retain the moisture.

You can see how thick they slice the beef, which helps keep the jerky moist and succulent.

Too often, mass produced jerky you buy in convenience stores is dry and tough. The Jerky Hut’s beef jerky is just the opposite. In fact, Jerky Hut’s beef jerky is so moist you literally have to pry the pieces apart.

The other reason The Jerky Hut products are so tasty is the flavors they use are real. They don’t use artificial flavorings and you can taste the difference. I sampled their Sweet Klondike Kal’s Golden Nuggets, a mild, sweet jerky that tastes like BBQ beef. It’s not overly sweet nor overly smoky. The beef is flavored with salt, sugar, brown sugar, maple sugar, garlic powder, black powder, and liquid smoke.

Jerky Hut has a large line of jerky and other smoked meat products. Their beef jerky comes in three flavors: sweet, smoked, and teriyaki. Each jerky flavor is available in four heat levels: mild, cracked black pepper, crushed red chilies, and habanero pepper. If you forget, just check the labels…cowboys are C-O-O-L and cowgirls are H-O-T!

The Jerky Hut’s gourmet beef jerky and smoked meats are usually only found at special events such as howe shows, sport shows, boat shows, fishing shows, rodeos, state fairs, national motorcycle events, and arts and crafts shows. The good news for beef jerky fans is that you can also order their products online and they’ll ship just about anywhere.
