Pacsafe Camsafe V6: Anti-Theft Top Load Camera Bag

Carrying a camera when you travel requires not only great protection for your equipment but also easy access. That perfect photo opp could happen at any time, afterall. Contributor, Bobbie Hasselbring, feels she’s found a camera bag that really works and does what it should, the Pacsafe Camsafe V6.

The PacSafe CamSafe V6 has a nice, long strap that's padded.

Camsafe’s long padded strap makes carrying my camera gear easy.

When it comes to carrying my full-sized DSLR camera, I’m a wimp. I hate the weight and the bulkiness of most camera bags that can accommodate my camera. Yet, if I travel without my DSLR and opt for my smart phone or a point-and-shoot camera, I’m disappointed with the image results. High-quality DSLRs simply produce better quality photos. So I was delighted when I discovered Pacsafe’s Camsafe V6. It’s a light-weight, top-loader style camera bag with all of Pacsafe’s legendary anti-theft technology that doesn’t make me feel like a pack animal. This elegantly-designed camera bag offers plenty of room and a plethora of stash places for all of those “must have” camera goodies without the weight or bulkiness ness of a traditional camera bag.

I recently field-tested the Camsafe V6 on a magazine assignment to Alaska. One of the things I loved about this bag is it features a long, adjustable, padded strap that enables me to sling the bag across my body, distributing the weight more equally. Whether I was on hiking trails or strolling the streets of Ketchikan, Juneau or Skagway, the strap allowed the weight of the teardrop-shaped bag to hang off of my back, preventing shoulder pain and fatigue. This strap is also reinforced with flexible, lightweight, stainless steel wire to prevent slash-and-grab theft. (The bag can also be worn on a belt. It’s not something I tested, but I’d like to try it.)

The bag measures 5.5 x 7.5 x 10.2 inches and weighs only 1.3 lbs yet it’s roomy enough to fit my full-sized DSLR body with its 18-135 mm lens, my 50 mm close-up lens, my plug-in battery charger and small waterproof Olympus point-and-shoot (sans its case). If I wanted to take along the point-and shoot with its case and charger, one of the two long outside elastic pockets would accommodate that nicely.

PacSafe CamSafe V6 has a lot of pockets.

The Camsafe V6’s multiple pockets and anti-theft technology means there’s a secure place for everything.

The Camsafe V6 body is super cushy to protect the camera and lenses. Inside are two, thick, removable divider pads with Velcro that you can adjust for different equipment, insuring your gear is protected from shocks and bumps. The entire bag is impregnated with eXomesh Slashguard, a lightweight flexible, stainless steel wire mesh. No thief will be trying to slash and grab through this bag! The top lid has two zipper pulls made of tough wire with ergonomic tabs that make zipping the top easy. Additionally, there’s an ingenious hidden hook attachment where you can attach the main compartment pulls to prevent anyone from unzipping the bag when you’re not looking.

The bag is made of tough nylon, which is water-resistant, and comes with a handy rain cover. I recently found out how important this is when we were in Newfoundland in a sudden downpour. I was carrying an old camera bag that was quickly getting wet and was forced to duck into an outdoor store and buy a makeshift rain cover to protect my expensive gear. Now, with the Camsafe V6, it can rain without worry.

On the trail or in the museums, the Camsafe made carrying all of my gear easy.

A Place for Everything

This bag has a zillion stash pockets. On the inside lid there’s on convenient little zippered place where I put photo releases. On the outside of the lid there’s another zippered pocket where I stashed a few extra batteries. The front of the bag features a big zippered pocket, again with two zipper pulls and the hidden attachment to keep things secure. Inside the zippered front pocket is a Velcro RFID pocket for keeping money, ID, and credit cards from being remotely zapped by tech savvy thieves. There’s also a mesh zippered pocket for things like extra photo cards and a sleeve for a mini tablet and a place for a pen.

PacSafe SafeCam V6 has a long strap that can go across the body.

Camsafe’s extra-long strap allows you to carry it on your shoulder or across the body.

Along the sides are two long expandable pockets. One was big enough for my beefy point-and-shoot camera case (with the camera and battery charger). The other was perfect for a bottle of water. Genius!

Real Bottom Line: If you’re looking for a compact camera bag that will not only protect your DSLR with a medium lens and more that features Pacsafe’s legendary anti-theft technology, you can’t do better than the Camsafe V6. Like me, you’ll find it offers flexible wear options from shoulder to belt to sling and room enough for everything you need for your camera. And you’ll have the security of knowing that your camera gear will be safe from thieves. Review by Bobbie Hasselbring, RFT Founder and Contributor
