How to Join the #FoodTravelChat Twitter Chat

#FoodTravelChat is a weekly Twitter Chat covering food and travel around the world. Each week, we have a different food-travel topic. Sometimes, the topic is related to a holiday, a food holiday (#InternationalXYZDay), the season, or whatever else we think might be a topic of interest.

How to do the #FoodTravelChat Twitter chat

If you’re new to participating in a Twitter Chat, don’t worry. It’s really quite easy. Here’s our quick guide:

  1. We meet every Wednesday at 4pm ET / 3pm CT / 1pm PT / 9pm GMT+1 / 10pm GMT+2.
  2. Head to Twitter and put #foodtravelchat in the search bar at the top. You’ll see all of the Tweets that have been sent that included the hashtag #foodtravelchat in it (they go back a long way!).
  3. Click on “Latest” to see the most recent posts that contain “#foodtravelchat” in them.
  4. During each Twitter Chat, RealFoodTraveler (@realfoodtravel is our Twitter handle), @FoodTravelChat, and our team of moderators, post a series of 10 questions to get the conversation going. Here’s an example:
“Q1: We love to eat like locals. What was one of your favorite local discoveries while traveling? #foodtravelchat.”
If you want to respond to that, the easiest way is to click on the “retweet” button (looks like a box formed by two arrows) and choose “Quote Retweet.” Then, give your reply like, for example: “We love tapas in Spain because there are so many tasty ones. #foodtravelchat.” Doing Quote Retweet displays your answer and the question you are responding to so that people know what the heck you’re talking about.
  5. It’s really important to include “#foodtravelchat” (or “FoodTravelChat” – same difference) in your responses because, otherwise, no one in the chat will see them. That hashtag is what connects the chat participants and we want to hear from you and not have your worthwhile comments going into the Twitter void!
  6. You may need to click “Latest” on Twitter or hit “Refresh” in your browser throughout the chat to nudge Twitter to show you the latest questions and comments that contain #foodtravelchat in them.
  7. If you have any questions about how to do the Twitter Chat, email courtney@realfoodtraveler.com with subjectline “#foodtravelchat help” and we’ll get right back to you.

Would you like us to remind you about each week’s #foodtravelchat in advance, each week? If so, Tweet “Remind me” to @foodtravelchat and we’ll add you to the list. If you’d like to see the questions in advance every week, so you can prepare your answers and photos, click HERE, where we post the questions every Monday.

#foodtravelchat Moderators

We have several moderators who help us develop topics and conversation for the chat. They add their expert food and travel experiences and laughs throughout the chats.
