Freshly roasted, in shell almonds you can crack with your hands.
The folks at Blue Diamond, the almond people, have come up with a way to roast almonds in the shell and create a thin in shell that you can open with your fingers. And, if you love fresh almonds as much as we do, you’ll agree that they’re a real winner.
At realfoodtraveler.com, almonds are a regular afternoon snack around our offices. They’re a healthy snack loaded with protein and healthy fats. Unfortunately, they’re also fairly high in calories and it’s easy to eat too many when they’re unshelled. The solution: Blue Diamond’s new Thin Shell Almonds.

The shell on each Blue Diamond Thin Shell Almond is so delicate you can easily crack it with your hands.
These almonds, available in Unsalted and Hint of Sea Salt varieties, are dry roasted in the shell until the normally tough outer shell becomes thin and delicate enough to open easily. Roasting them in the shell keeps them fresh and in-shell roasting gives these almonds a richer, nuttier flavor than other almonds. Because you have to shell them, it’s much easier to slow down and be more conscious about how many you eat. And, like peanuts in the shell, they’re fun to crack.
Our editors at RFT found these almonds to be a wonderfully satisfying snack. They are naturally gluten-free and have no MSG, or artificial ingredients or preservatives added to them. A serving provides 6 grams of protein, enough to slow down those afternoon munchies.
I left a bowl of these almonds on my desk, letting people discover them on their own. One editor said, “Wow, these are really fresh.”
Another commented, “These are really good. What are they?”

LOVED these, but they seem to have disappeared off the shelf. They are not even listed on the product section of the Blue Diamond website anymore. A shame. This was a quality product.
Hi Ken,
Strange. You’re certainly right that you can’t find these on Blue Diamond’s website. I’ve sent them an email inquiring if they’ve discontinued this product (it was new and, of course, if it didn’t sell well enough, they wouldn’t continue it). I’ll let you know if I hear anything back from them. Thanks for letting us know. — Bobbie, RFT Editor
Okay, friends, here’s the deal: I did contact Blue Diamond and I finally heard from there. They’re not selling Blue Diamond Thin Shell Almonds anymore. Can’t buy ’em. This was a new product and I guess it didn’t sell well. Sorry. — Bobbie, RFT Editor.
Hi Ken,
See my most recent reply. Blue Diamond has pulled this product. So sad. — Bobbie, RFT Editor
Well, this page talks about roasting almonds in the shell but doesn’t give the necessary particulars… temperature, time to roast them. Please email me with the missing information. Thank you, Ed Dye
Hi Ed,
Thanks for your email. This post is not about roasting almonds in the shell; it’s about a new roasted in the shell product from Blue Diamond that you buy at the store. If it had been a how-to story, we’d have put it in our recipe section. If we find such a recipe for roasted in the shell almonds, we’ll surely post it for you. And if you find one, send it to us and we’ll publish it. Thanks. — Bobbie, RFT Editor
