The Table Mountain Inn Experience

I love it when a hotel honors, and communes with, the destination in which it resides in terms of architecture, decor, art, and cuisine – if it has a restaurant. The Table Mountain Inn, in Golden, Colorado is a prime example. A recent visit confirmed why it’s one of our places to stay, and dine! We wrote about the Inn in more detail in our Colorado-centric sister-site, InGoodTasteDenver.com.

A Unique Place to Stay

Earthen-colored adobe and blue iron accents stand out among its more old-west neighbors on Washington Street, the main street through Golden, a city with a rich Western history (and home of Coors Beer). Inside Table Mountain Inn, there’s classic southwestern architecture and touches, beautiful tile accents and stunning artwork.

You can’t go wrong in your choice of type of room at Table Mountain Inn. Suites offer the most space, with a separate living room with fireplace and balcony, bedroom with its own balcony, tiled wet bar and large bathroom. The non-suite, but totally sweet, room we stayed in on our most recent visit had oodles of space and a feature I appreciate  – a sink and vanity area separate from the enclosed bathroom. It makes sharing a room, well, easier. The balcony had a great view of Washington Street and mountainsides for post-dinner views as sunset skies blended into the twinkling lights of Golden. The Restaurant at Table Mountain Inn:

Table Mountain Grill & Cantina is not just a convenient place for Inn guests to grab a bite or a drink. Instead, a great deal of thought goes into the menu planning, making it a destination itself, even for non-guests. The flavors of southwestern cuisine make their way into many dishes in creative ways. New menu items give diners great opportunities to try some out, which also take advantage of ingredients from local vendors and growers.

On our most recent visit, we ate there for breakfast and had Blue Corn Pancakes ($14.99) topped with plantains foster, toasted pine nuts, and dulce vida reposado whipped cream and the Breakfast Burrito ($14.99) with chorizo, breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs, cheddar jack cheese, flour tortilla, pork green chile and sour cream. Other brunch items we could have chosen from included Chicken n’ Biscuits ($16.99) with housemade Jalapeno cheddar biscuits, Santa Fe Hot chicken, pork green chili, poached eggs, cheddar jack cheese, Pico de Gallo, and breakfast potatoes and the Nopales Omelet ($14.99) with Nopales (a type of cactus, needles removed of course), cherry tomatoes, asparagus and Asadero cheese.

Beyond breakfast/brunch, there’s lunch, dinner, happy hour, late night happy hour, and taco Tuesdays, all ways to experience a variety of food and drink. Table Mountain Inn & Cantina is known for their margaritas but have a full bar available for all your sipping desires. Look for menu items that include Crispy Pork Belly with watermelon, plantain, Tajin and queso fresco; Pollo Asado cold-smoked and 24-hour marinated chicken grilled and served with sweet corn puree, grilled summer squash, Fresno achiote hot sauce, and warm potato bacon salad; Yucatan Ribeye with sweet corn fritter, cafe-roasted carrots, grilled asparagus and chipotle butter: and, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free items, there’s also the Mojo Jackfruit Sandwich with grilled pineapple and pepitas.
