St. Louis, Missouri, revels in its rich history but celebrates what’s modern, all at the same time, and sometimes in the same place. That means many things to do in St. Louis, perfect for when you’re traveling with someone with different tastes than you. That’s the concept behind the InsideOutsideTravel.com blog, a partner on RealFoodTraveler.com. Focusing on one trip, two people, very different interests, come along and meet us in “Saint Louie”!

The famous St. Louis Arch – it’s a thrill to get to the top.
Things to do in St. Louis
For travelers who prefer to be INSIDE, there’s plenty to take in including:

City Museum with a praying mantis on the roof, next to a ferris wheel, it is one of the more unusual but not-to-be-missed things to do in St. Louis. Covering 10 stories, the museum of “found” items is for the kid at heart in everyone, adults and children. Check out this crazy video from our YouTube Channel, below.
Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis doesn’t have one drop of paint inside. Instead, it’s decorated and gleaming with the largest collection of mosaics in the Western Hemisphere.
The Gateway Arch is a thrill to see. It’s an experience to go to the top via a cramped little capsule. The ride is worth it for the view from the top though.
Head OUTSIDE in St. Louis and see:
Saint Genevieve an area where 80% of the residents are of French descent, the present and the past merge in this French settlement community. Learn about the area’s fascinating history through tours and just walking around. Everything is beautifully-preserved. Standing in the very rooms people stood in so long ago, hearing about their lives, it’s very humbling.
In addition to walking its historic areas, St. Louis also offers plenty of adventure outdoors with 87 state parks and historic sites (like above), the Mark Twain National Forest, the Ozark National Scenic Riverways and the 240-mile Katy Trail (America’s longest rail-to-trail conversion).

Where to EAT in St. Louis:
EAT St. Louis takes you on a three hour walking tour around The Hill, a neighborhood famous for its Italian cuisine. The tour is wonderful. Not only do you get something to eat at every stop but you hear great, generations-old stories about the people and businesses. And you get to see the unique architecture of the area including the long, narrow original immigrant homes. Neighbors out in their yards are so used to the tours going by that they are welcoming and friendly, waving and chatting.
