I met fellow food and travel writer, Abbey Algiers, while in Mallorca, Spain. We became fast friends, with many shared interests. I was so happy, then, when Abbey agreed to be a guest on my Real Food Traveler Podcast. Click the graphic below to hear it. Abbey tells our readers and listeners about five unique food experiences she has had in recent years – “experiences” being the operative word.

Real Food Experiences in Spain
In this episode, Abbey tells us about how she first fell in love with Spain when she was a child – and what keeps drawing her back.

She tells us about visiting Zamora during Holy Week, a yoga retreat in Cadiz, and trips with her husband to Pamplona and San Sebastian.

In Madrid, she describes some of the varied neighborhoods and food options there, including the tapas experience.
Abbey has also walked the Camino where she experienced the Pilgrim Menu, a special option for those walking the paths. But she also tells us about very local food and drink options even if you aren’t doing the Camino.

At the end of our conversation, I asked Abbey three questions: 1. What one food do you recommend someone have when in Spain? 2. What one drink do you recommend they have? 3. If one could only visit one city in Spain, which one should it be? See what her surprising answers were.
