See why this book, Brownies, Blondies and Bars, stands out to our cookbook reviewer, Lisa George, like no other.

Blondies Brownies and Bars cookbook cover

I’ve reviewed many cookbooks over the years, and Brownies, Blondies, and Bars written by Stephanie Brubaker stands out in two important ways:  the print is large enough in the recipes that I don’t need to find reading glasses to discern the fractions, and there are beautiful photos of every single recipe.

Brownies made with the book Brownies, Blondies and Bars.Brownies, Blondies, and Bars is a 9 inch x 8 inch paperback cookbook packed with a variety of recipes to fit any occasion. The recipes are trustworthy, easy to follow, and use common ingredients. Not all of the recipes revolve around chocolate. The three sections of recipes, Brownies, Blondies, and Bars, contain a variety of titles such as:  Glazed Lemon Brownies, Nutella Brownies with a Pretzel Crust, Cinnamon Roll Blondies, Maple Pecan Blondies, No Bake Oreo Peanut Butter Cheesecake Bars, and Eggnog Meltaway Bars. For those who can’t get enough chocolate, there is a large proportion of the 50 recipes that contain either white chocolate, milk, or dark chocolate.

The Chocolate Chip Cookie Stuffed Brownies on page 20 are worthy of applause.  The Coffee Toffee Brownies on page 26 were outstanding.  Packed with chocolate, coffee, and Heath chips, and boasting a Nutella frosting, they belong in our regular dessert rotation.  See the attached photo of our efforts.

The Caramel Peanut Blondies with Chocolate Ganache on page 67 were very good.  They aren’t terribly unique, but that didn’t stop us from inhaling the entire pan!

Most home cooks find it convenient to have a concentrated cookbook – one that contains many variations on the same theme. If you know you want to bake a delicious bar for dessert, this should be your go-to book. The photos are enticing, the recipes are easy to read, and the results are finger licking good.
