There I was, stepping off the cruise ship and back onto land in Miami, feeling that sense of post-vacay letdown that always happens. The magical bubble of a cruise may have been coming to an end but, fortunately, I still had something really special to look forward to – a night at Hyatt Centric Brickell Miami. It’s a great place to start or end a voyage out of the Miami Cruise Port or, even better, a place to spend the entirety of a vacation.
Hyatt Centric Brickell Miami: Where to Stay Before or After a Cruise
Here at Real Food Traveler, we love cruising and always advocate getting to your embarkation city a day early to provide a buffer against cancelled flights or other potential delays. We’ve taken many cruises out of the Miami Cruise Port Terminal (Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Carnival, MSC and others sail out of there) and always try to stay in Miami the night before. Previously, we’ve stayed as close to the Cruise Port as possible in whatever hotel we could find – places adequate enough to lay our heads and not much more. But this time, we spent a post-cruise night at the Hyatt Centric Brickell Miami, making that extra day a mini-vacation itself.
Located only around 15 minutes from the cruise terminal (and within view of it), the sleek hotel is located in the Brickell neighborhood that combines Miami’s financial district with dining, shopping and nightlife.
THE PERKS OF STAYING THERE
- Every guestroom faces the beautiful blue waters of Biscayne Bay, has a balcony with seating and floor-to-ceiling windows. You could spend hours just watching the boats in the bay come and go.
- The very spacious guestrooms have a king or two queen beds, a sofa and desk/table. The room is divided by a TV on a stand so that you can watch from bed or from the “livingroom” area.
Guestrooms are spacious with sleeping and livingroom areas divided by a TV.
- Ridiculously comfortable beds including pillows that are just the right amount of fluffiness. If you’ve stayed in a hotel where the beds weren’t comfortable, you know what a difference this makes. I was impressed with how taughtly the beds were made yet how comfortable they were once under the duvet.Hungry for more? The three railroaders who built Florida.
- The bathrooms are spacious, especially the showers (a real treat compared to the teensy ones on cruise ships).
The guestroom bathrooms are large with wonderfully-spacious showers.
- Caña Restaurant and Lounge is the hotel’s own restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with Cuban and Latin flavors. It’s even popular with the locals who go to enjoy the cuisine of Executive Chef William Milian who brings the influences of his family’s Cuban cuisine to every plate. Dishes include Masas de Puerco (fried Cuban mojo marinated pork with onion and garlic) and Vaca Frita (mojo marinated shredded beef, Cuban mojo and onion). At lunch, for a very reasonable $15, guests from the hotel and the general public can enjoy a lunch buffet with beans, rice, vegetables, protein and salad. It’s a great deal. Caña, by the way, means “sugarcane” in Spanish. The restaurant is also a 2025 Gold Winner in Miami Herald’s Miami-Dade Favorites Awards in Category of Best Cuban Restaurant. Stay tuned for our separate article detailing our drinking and dining experience at Caña.
Cana serves a varied lunch buffet for hotel guests and the general public.
- Free, good-quality coffee is available for guests at Caña.
- There’s a heated rooftop pool with hot tub and poolside cabanas plus a Pool Bar open certain days and hours.
- Amenities include two free waters, a coffee maker and mini-fridge in every room, a fitness center, free internet, room service, laundry, EV charging, valet parking and concierge. They are even dog-friendly.
- A little card that comes with your guestroom keycard has a QR code for discounts for Big City Bus Tours, two hours of free bike rental and discounts at area restaurants and various attractions.
- It’s a Hyatt Hotel so you can rack up some points if you’re a Hyatt rewards member.
